Sandra Shaw. Dawood.Ph.D.
Before moving to Napa Valley in August, 1996, I worked
nineteen years with clients of all ages in Southern California.
For several years I provided my services at a high school
with students and families. I consulted at mental health
board-and-care facilities with geriatric, psychiatric patients.
In San Bernardino County Department of Mental Health I

was a clinician for both chronic and acute
mental health patients of all ages, involving a wide spectrum of mental
health disorders.
I counseled battered women and their children at a shelter, which included
an outreach program for families of
domestic violence - the survivors, as well as the perpetrators. As a Juvenile
Court Investigator with Riverside
County, I dealt with child neglect and abuse cases. I have worked with patients
in regard to stress, anger, and
pain management and have used biofeedback techniques in adjunct to psychotherapy.
My first internship began
in 1977 at the California Rehabilitation Center, a prison, where I was a therapist
for male and female residents.
I have taught undergraduate students in various community colleges, as well as
graduate students at National
University in Palm Springs. I presently consult at the local hospital.
After coming to Napa Valley, I became the Clinical Director of a few
youth homes. In southern and in northern
California I worked at adolescent drug treatment programs. I have supervised psychology and marriage,
family,
and child therapy interns in Northern and Southern California. Some of the additional areas that
I have provided my services
are as follows: coping with separation, divorce, widowhood; women/men in life
transitions; drug/alcohol and
codependency issues. I have enjoyed working therapeutically with some of my clients
in their journalizing and
discussing their dreams. I have earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1987 at
the United States International
University in San Diego and my MS in 1978 from Loma Linda University in Marriage,
Family, and Child
Counseling. I have a license as a Psychologist and as a Marriage, Family, and
Child Therapist.
I raised my three children as a single parent for nine years, before marrying
my husband in 1975, who was born and raised in Egypt. |
